WoolGee is an alternative gamgee product made using 100% sheep wool. This absorbent cushioned wrap is ideal for everyday use, including travel, exercise, or competition, and it is also a protective wrap for wound management.

Benefits of using WoolGee as bandage wrap:

  • Temperature-regulating—Wool's naturally breathable nature gives it incredible temperature-regulating qualities that are hard to match with comparable products. In the heat, this means less sweating under the wrap, and in cooler temperatures, warmth is retained.

  • Moisture wicking—Because wool is a natural fibre, it can absorb and release moisture as needed, holding up to 30% of its weight in water without feeling clammy and wet. This means it can wick moisture away from the skin, but moisture can also easily evaporate.

  • Malleability—The level of integrity in the material WoolGee is balanced to allow it to mould easily to the curves of an animal's body without causing bunching in other areas, which can lead to pressure points and rubbing.

  • Sustainable—Wool is an amazing renewable resource that sequesters carbon as it grows. Being made from 100% wool also means that it is 100% biodegradable, so it can be disposed of in your compost or even as a mulch mat in the garden to suppress weeds and deliver nutrients back into the soil as it breaks down. It’s not just good for your animals its also good for the planet!

How to use:

Measure and cut to the required size and place under the appropriate bandage. Take care to avoid creating pressure points under the bandage. When bandaging above the knee or hock, use a ‘relief' hole to relieve known pressure points at the joint.

WoolGee can be reused when used as a wrap in stable or compression bandaging. It can be washed, but it must be done in a hand wash with cold water and a detergent such as sunlight soap and then laid flat to dry, as it is not prewashed.

A non-adhesive gauze should be placed between the wound and the wool dressing if used to dress a discharging wound. For wound dressings, WoolGee should be changed frequently, following your veterinarian’s recommendations. Please note that WoolGee is non-sterilised but can be sterilised in an autoclave.
